Obscene Matters (4/...)

Startled, Scully stepped back and came up against the counter. Svensen stepped in to close the distance, bringing his painted face close to hers. "I didn't want to be like this," he told her, "I had a fiancé, you know. She was beautiful like you are." "Bert, please." Scully put her hand on his chest and gently pushed him back as he tried to come in even closer. "I know it's been lonely here." "You have no idea," he said and pushed against her hand, his lips pursed. Skinner looked up from his pitiful meditation with a pained expression. "We have to get out of here," he muttered to no one in particular and pulled out his cell phone to try once again. Svensen paused in his perusal of records to watch Skinner use the cell phone. After a moment he looked at Scully quizzically, and asked, "Everyone has one of those thingy's now?" "It seems like everyone has one," Scully told the man, who upon first seeing their cell phone thought they were cigarette cases. The cells might as well have been vintage cigarette cases since they were completely useless down in this concrete tomb. The two exchanged skeptical glances. "Is this typical?" Skinner asked her, his tone calm and almost blasé. She frowned at him, not understanding at first. "Typical for you and Mulder?" Scully mouthed an "Oh," then shrugged and nodded. "Pretty much," she answered in a sigh, sounding jaded. Skinner brushed his hands together, dusting off the funk of untold decades, and glanced down the passageway. The sound was louder now, and more off key as the person tried to equal Mitzi Gaynor's delivery of 'Honey Bun.' "Just wondering," he murmured, and blew out a breath. "What is this place?" Skinner asked as he began to look around more closely at his surroundings. "It's a..." Scully began and broke off, only to have her failed words be delivered by the shopkeeper. "A home for homeless antiquities." He passed towels to both of them then clasped his free hands together again. "A haven for undiscovered treasures. My name is Arthur Gandy, and this is my shop."

Zuzu's Petals - Part 3

Zuzu's Petals - Part 3 by PR Christmas has many different meanings to so many different people, and as people grow older and experience life the meaning of Christmas can change. Christmas: the celebration of Christ's birth, a time of gathering in friendship, or a time to be endured for the less fortunate. Scully had been fortunate enough to experience the childhood euphoria of many Christmas mornings with her sister and brothers, even several when her father had been home from the sea for the holidays. Yet, as she grew older Christmas had become a harried event, shaded with depression as familiar faces disappeared from the family gatherings. But somehow, after everything the family had been through, Scully's mother kept the warmth and good feelings alive at Christmas. Perhaps it was the infusion of new life with Charlie and Evelyn's brood, and the appreciation for what joy did remain. Scully followed and watched as her mother moved about the house, seeing ho...

Zuzu's Petals: Part 2 (2/11)

Zuzu's Petals: Part 2 by PR Chung The front yard was lit up like-- well it was lit up like a Christmas tree, Scully amusedly thought and grinned broadly as she got out the car and took in the hundreds of white lights wrapped around every tree and over every shrub in front of her mother's house. "Did you know about all this?" Bill asked his sister, going around the back of the jeep.   "Oh, God, no," Scully chuckled, "when did she get all this done? It's never been like this before." Bill laughed and shook his head, opening up the car hatch to get the presents out. "She's going to divert planes from Dulles," he joked and held a box out to Scully. "It's not that bad." "Didn't say it was bad," Bill countered good naturedly, hesitating over one of the presents. "Looks like some of your bows are coming off here, Dana." She checked the reported damage as he handed the box to her....
